The Product seems very solid and durable. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow. You need to be careful a bit to measure very exactly, but then everything works out great. We struggled a little with the measurements though because everything is in Inches and so we needed to transfer all measurements to cm and mm.

I absolutely love these kits. This is the second bed I've built with the kit, so this time around things went very smoothly. My earlier project was a twin with the old style hardware, which features flip-out legs that pull a rope attached to deadlatches that lock the bed in place. This new style is by far better. The ropes and hinges wear down over time (it is used in a children's room where it is moved up and down daily), while this new leg system appears far better. There is no need for a latch, the bed stays by itself. I will say that the struts on the Full-Size kit seem a little underpowered. While the twin is extremely easy to lift, this one is much heavier.All finished, it fits a pillow-top mattress with sheets and comforter, all made, perfectly, although I have to take off the head pillows. Using a quality mattress, it's just as comfortable as my master bedroom box spring bed.The DVD is very detailed, but a little slow moving. If this is your first time, you should grab a bowl of popcorn and watch it through. It helps when reading through the instructions, which are extremely thorough and perfectly organized. You'll have no trouble following the directions. However, this kit does require decent wood working skills to build. You can have the pieces cut at a lumber yard (not the Home Depot type, they won't do this many precision cuts) but you will still have to drill precise holes, make measurements, etc. and will need various tools like allen wrenches, hammer, saw, drill, bits and so on. But if you are handy, you shouldn't have any trouble. I did all my cuts, construction, assembly and installation in one weekend, about 16 hours total, not including painting and finishing.I'll try to attach some photos. It's in a nursery that is rather small and needed to double as a guest room as well as a place for mom/dad to crash with baby. I definitely recommend this kit, and I am in love with the murphy bed concept.

This is a GREAT kit! The instructions were spot on. The DVD guides you through absolutely everything. This took me about a month to finish just because I had other projects going on. I put it in a tiny bedroom and it's perfect! Just make sure to get high quality materials. It's better to invest in good products up front so you don't have to spend loads of time making it pretty later with wood filler. If you are just the least bit handy you can make this bed. The basic tools needed are a circular saw, drill, bits, and patience. If I run into the need for a Murphy bed in the future I will definitely invest in this kit again. I ended up building a cabinet/closet on one side and a bookshelf on the other to fill up the entire wall so it wouldn't look odd just sticking out from the wall in a big bulky cabinet. I also installed a LED light strip in the top for some ambiance. With the use of some wall decals and a cute comforter it's made a nice Dory themed room!

I purchased the queen size kit previously and thought the next size down would be easy after that first build. Building the full-size verticle bed has been a bigger pain than I expected. The measurements are off and the directions are terrible. This has taken two weekends to complete because of all the problems we ran into because of the innaccurate measurements. There's no easy way to reorder any parts that might break so tread carefully. This isn't a project for an amateur.

This bed kit is a great help in the Murphy bed dilemma. We have wanted one for years but have priced them and did not want to spend that much money! Why not try build one myself? Here is the kit, the directions and diagrams to do it. This is not a beginner's kit. It takes some skill to get the material; bought, cut, drilled, shaped, sanded and assembled. Several notes to builders. If you use plywood like I did in the area's allowed. Shop for a good deal on edging tape not supplied in the kit. Buy a used iron from the 2nd hand store to apply the edging. (It is heat applied). Once your bed is built... Screw brackets to the wall and to the bed to secure the bed to the wall! BEFORE YOU MOUNT THE GAS STRUTS TO THE FRAME/BED ASSEMBLY! Things can go horribly wrong if you do not. "Ask me how I know." The kit is wonderful and well thought out. We recieved a video with the kit with "How to..." information. It did not work well. Pictures but no sound..

I have just completed the bed construction and cannot speak about durability or what it is like to use the bed; I can only speak about my experience building the bed. I can say that the quality of the kit components appears to be superior. The instructions that come with the kit are very clear and easy to follow and there is an excellent instructional video included. I have been a woodworking hobbyist for many decades and I have an extensive woodworking shop. I'm sure that was helpful to me, but not necessary. Building a basic bed requires precise, straight cuts and drilling some holes in exactly the right places. Some of the holes require a forstner bit, and that is I think the most exotic tool needed. You need plenty of space and the strength to handle 4x8 sheets of 3/4 inch plywood or the even heavier MDF if you use that (your choice--instructions provided for both). Building the basic bed took me a couple of days, but not full days and working very carefully. I'm 72 years old; a younger me could have built it in a day. Most of how the project will go will depend upon the builder, but I believe the manufacturers have done everything they possibly can to make the project a success.

This is a first-class product. Although I did not realized it from the product listing, it is a Rockler product. I have never had a bad product from Rockler. I am at best an average DYIer, but by carefully following the written instructions and included DVD, I was able to complete the project successfully. You should be aware that the kit comes with no lumber; I spent about $500 for good quality 3/4" oak finish plywood and other assorted items needed. I also own a table saw and miter saw, and it would be very difficult to complete the project without at least a table saw. The only difficulty I had was at the very end when trying to connect the hydraulic pistons to the plates I had previously installed. I called the technical assistance number included with the written instructions, and they instantly provided me with the solution. I am very pleased with the final result.

It's not easy to assemble, you need to have the right tools and skills to cut the wood and assemble it to specifications. It only can be done by a professional wood worker and I got professional help and he said it was a little bit challenging even for him. The bed platform is really heavy and the weight of my matress is not enough to keep the bed down in position, it tries to bounce back up. The manual says that matress weight should be enough to keep it down but my matress is not that much heavy and I would need to buy a new heavier one. They should include some kind of locking mechanism to keep the bed down in place regardless of the matress weight. Other than that, the hardware looks sturdy and it's been a great space saver for my apartment.

I needed to make space in my spare bedroom so I can use it for an office for the foreseeable future. I haven’t done a ton of woodworking, but I wanted to try to tackle a big project.I was able to build this bed entirely on my own with the provided instructions with my only help needed when it came time to attach the pistons.The directions in the kit were clear and I was also able to make modifications to the design to suit my needs without too much hassle.The materials in the kit are made well and the finished product (while dependent on your building skills of course), seems sturdy and the parts function exactly as they should.I took off one star because I was missing one of the screws, so I needed an extra trip to the store to get a replacement.

The hardware kit for this was very well constructed, but I didn’t feel like it merited the cost. The plans were well written and concise, and I was easily able to use the part layouts to have everything pre-cut at Home Depot so that all I had to do was round one edge of the two frame rails and drill all the required holes.The instructions are very clear about mounting the header to the wall, but what they don’t mention is if this is installed on a hard floor, the bottom is going to slide back and forth. This may not be an issue on a carpeted floor, where it will sink into the carpet/carpet pad, and that will provide stability, but in order to keep mine from moving around, I added a rail between the two side panels that I screwed directly to the floor. I have also considered anchoring the headboard to the wall to eliminate the remaining play in the frame.Overall, this is a sturdy bed, but if you’re comfortable with basic cabinetry and woodworking, there is certainly room for improvement.

Built this for a customer. Should mention that the kit does not come with a pull bar. The booklet inside the box shows it, but the check off list does not. Not possible to purchase separately. We used a dowel rod. Everything else was straight forward and easy to assemble. Would purchase again.

I'm a experienced builder and I will say this isnt a kit for a beginner. With that said just know what you're getting into and take you're time. The directions were actually very detailed and easy to use. The gas struts felt way to stiff but once the bed frame is assembled it creates the leverage to compress them. My only complaint is the price. Wish it was around the 150-200 range but it's a complete kit so I guess that's how it goes.

This hardware kit is solidly built and comes with detailed instructions plus a DVD of the construction and assembly process. If you're like me and don't have a DVD player, you can find their videos with a quick YouTube search.Overall a good value. If the printed instructions were updated to match the video instructions, this would be 5 stars.The Good:*Materials list in the instruction booklet was spot on for quantities with little overage.*The parts are solid and look very durable*Excellent value for the cost of this kitThe Bad:*Instructions are not always clear. Between the video and written instructions you can figure it out but it gets frustrating flipping back and forth.*Some materials requirements are buried in the instructions. Read all instructions before ordering wood and fasteners.

Do not buy this crap. The picture attached is literally the only thing they say about the head board. The DVD cuts in and out. Measurements are closer to the cure for cancer then remotely accurate to the construction of this bed.

I used this kit to make a Murphy bed for my daughter. It turned out very nice. The directions were very clear and the quality of the hardware was excellent! Be sure to follow the directions carefully and make sure you cut the wooden parts accurately ( measure three times and cut once).

Murphy Bed from scratch....For a beginner, you need multiple tools and the cost will amount to $160.00. The cost of the wood required will cost approx. $700.00. For sure you will need a table saw (borrow), 90 degree angle clamps and multiple size wood clamps. Experience....A Novice in wood...11 days +, A Beginner or some experience in wood... 5 days, a experienced wooder....3 days. HELP.... the manufacturer of this product is not available when trouble arises. The manufacturer works Mon. to Thur., is off on Holidays... so if questions or trouble occur, you are out in the COLD for a couple of more days until he returns your call. The biggest problem is communication when needed.!

This kit is very high quality. The plans for building the Murphy Bed from the kit are extensively detailed and easy to understand and the video that comes along with it is even better. We bought this to build for our basement family room and it came out perfectly. I had to modify my installation slightly and called for help and got to someone immediately and they provided both the answer and detailed instructions. Great USA based company.I would consider myself only one level up from an Amateur and I was able to follow every instruction. We did have to buy a couple of specialty drill bits and more clamps than I had on hand but the quality of our bed is equal to the $3,000 plus beds sold online.

The hardware is solid, and the directions (printed and DVD) are clear and easy to follow. If you measure precisely, and make straight and accurate cuts, the bed assembles nicely and works perfectly. Took me a couple of reviews to fully understand the plans, but they become clear once you figure them out. Toughest part is cutting all the 3/4" ply to size as you have to be pretty spot on for it all to come together right. After that it is just measuring, remeasuring, drilling and installing the hardware. With a helper, you can go from box store to intall in a day.

My friend helped me to put this together and it is fantastic! The space in the room is so much better. The cabinet is nice, the instructions were easy to follow and the hardware is top notch! With some skill (or knowing someone with skill) this is far superior to what's in the stores for a fraction of the price. We are so pleased with the whole experience!

I am very happy with this kit - it's a sturdy, quality kit, and the instructions included were excellent. This included a detailed lumber sheet, so I was able to get exactly what I needed with little waste, and the video instructions were fantastic! I literally followed them along as I built this, extremely helpful. The finished bed came out great - looks good, and works very well. I built this primarily with 3/4" poplar plywood (I painted it), with some solid wood for some of the skinnier parts.

I followed the directions..didnt make any changes..there was an unclear part of the directions when installing the plate for the top section of the hydraulic lift..it says to bore a hole I believe it was 5/8" but the nut that sits in..had a 1/8" of play..I got a hold of a rep for the company . He said to push it up..so I did..but the bed frame hit the header..which I had to raise a 1/4 so I could have clearance..just for any one reading..drop it towards the base..other than that great product

Just finished the bed, came out great - I modified the plans slightly to fit it into a section of a room. they really thought about the design of this hardware, and it is solid as a rock - no fear of it coming apart. the hydraulics are very strong, and the bed will sprint back into the wall unless you have some weight (ie mattress) on the platform.

Excellent quality and design but whoever did these instructions should be fired. I’m and engineer/carpenter/mechanic and i struggled a bit. Only due to the directions being all over the place. The content is there but it’s organization/user friendliness is beyond terrible.After actually building it i was almost tempted to re-write them for you but felt it might be an insult so I’m just going to leave this honest review. All-in-all I’m happy with the purchase which is why 4 stars was given.

This kit exceeded all my expectations for several reasons: 1. Excellent packaging - I could easily see and inventory all the parts. 2. The plans were VERY through and easy to follow. 3. The mechanical parts were very well engineered/well thought out and worked well. 4. The video was very well made and showed exactly what needed to be done to complete the project. 5. We purchased an excellent Full Size Mattress and my son, who is visiting us, said he slept well. 6. The price point was well set.I bought plywood and had it cut at a local woodworking company, which saved me hundreds of dollars in buying expensive equipment, which I didn't need. Took me about 10 days, working from 2 to 5 hours a day to complete the project. Had 2 other people help me move it into the house and bedroom and help me install it to the wall. A wonderful addition to our guest bedroom.Jan. 23, 2004 Wanted to add more comments to the original review. After my son left, he said that he slept as well as he does on his own mattress & bed. My wife has also slept on it when I'm under the weather and she also says that it is very comfortable and easy to pull down and put back up. Bottom line: An excellent purchase!!
