I purchased this after my Hamilton Beach can opener started releasing metal shards when opening cans after at least 8 years of use. I did lots of research and decided to go with this one, and purchased the stainless steel one hoping to get the best I could since we cook often and didn’t want to shop for another can opener in awhile. The first one I got worked great once, maybe twice, but then I noticed metal shavings on the edge where it was cutting the can open. I thought, maybe this is defective. Contacted Amazon, explained and customer service quickly issued a replacement.Second can opener I noticed the metal shavings almost immediately! Seriously? The second one also struggled opening large cans. I’m sorry but considering it wasn’t an inexpensive can opener, I expect it to work, and it would be great if I didn’t have to worry about metal shavings in my food. For this reason I am returning it. Back to the search for a good workhorse of a can opener for me.

Good at opening cans. I only give four stars because the first couple of cans left one or two metal pieces after cutting. They were on top of the liquid and easy to get out. I washed the beans and used them with no digestive problems. The times after that, I have not noticed any metal and have looked well. I would suggest rinsing the cutting apparatus after each use. It is very easy to take out for rinsing.

It worked ok for a couple months, then wouldn't cut larger cans like a family size soup can. Called the customer service about the warranty, and was told that because it still opened some cans, like a small condensed soup can size, they wouldn't replace it. Only after pressing her and telling her that what I was opening was still a standard size can that should be expected to open fine did she tell me I could pay to send it into their warehouse to have it evaluated. She doesn't know how long that will take, but I also need to send in an additional $10 for them to ship it back to me should they determine nothing is wrong with it. I bought Cuisinart for it's rep and I'm sadly frustrated. I did like the stainless steel, not only for look but also cleanliness, but look isn't worth the trouble I'm currently having. I'm happy to update this review should I receive a favorable outcome from the warehouse, but I'm not going to weigh the Cuisinart name heavily in the future when buying appliances.

Further, my wife's wrists can't take this kind of stress anymore.Her spirits jumped when she saw how effortlessly the lady in the video opened cans with the Cuisinart electric can opener. The stainless steel housing is attractive and stores readily under the counter cabinets. The body wipes clean and the cutting piece is easily removed for cleaning in the dishpan.When the device works properly, once you engage the cutting lever it marches on its own around the can's circumference and the lid is conveniently lifted by the magnetic lifter--just as in the video. When it works, that is.But about half the time, I end up hearing the old refrain, "Hey Bob!" The darn thing won't engage fully. You try again and it goes maybe a half inch. You can't seem to restart it in a cut place. Leave a little space, re-engage the cutting mechanism and advance another half inch, etc. Then finish the job by abusing the can top with some other instrument from the drawer and bludgeon the gaps until you can open the lid enough to pour out the can's contents.Unfortunately, can opening nirvana seems out of reach!Are we missing some refinement of technique in placing the can up to the cutter? Is there variation from can to can that renders this device unable to function properly?I considered returning the Cuisinart, but 50% success beats zero. Thus my score of 3.

Don't waste your money. Decided to go with the expensive choice because it looks good and we were going to leave it on the countertop. Too bad it is unusable after two months. It was a little finicky at first, but if you figured how to align the can just right, it was okay. Now, it will no longer hold a can or operate at all. Please, do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS. Looked online and saw a nice-looking Hamilton Beach Stainless model at Walmart. We're going to pick it up today for $17.96. More than $30 less. We'll see how it works. Can I return this to Amazon and get my money back?

This opener looks nice, but is not eazy to use. There is no guide to help place the can, and I found that you need to place the can slightly to the right or the blade will not catch. It will not hold a can in position, so you have to basically hold the can while it spins or it will fall and your corn or beans will be on the counter and floor. The blade and lever will fall out if you are not careful. Makes it easy to clean, but that is about the only thing good about this can opener. Not worth the $$.

The first Cuisinart SCO-60 Deluxe Stainless Steel Can Opener lasted 3 years with 9 cans a week use. It is sturdy with a medium footprint weighted bottom, tall, easy to clean surface and removable handle/blade. The weakest part is the can drive gear is connected to the motor via a plastic splined push-on connector. With age, heavy cans or cans that get jammed will brake the plastic connector between the drive gear and the motor and the can will no longer turn under the blad. It opens all can sizes quickly without leaving sharp jagged edges. The best feature is the hands-free AUTO stop.
