We have been using this product for about 2 years, changing every 2 months (and our usage is way under 16,000 gallons in that time). For the past 4 changes I've noticed significant tearing of the filter leading to 100% bypass. I got these because I thought they'd be better than the string wrapped ones. But at least with the string they can't bypass if the tear a little.
